The Crew Compartment

The Crew Compartment

This is an image of the explosion happening. The dot you can see in the picture inside of the red circle is the Crew Compartment of the shuttle, which conatined all of the crew members. People believe that some of the Challenger crew members survived the explosion, and later died from the impact of hitting the water. The rate at which the crew compartment was plummeting twards the ocean was around 200 miles per hour. Once the Crew Compartment was found, the crew member's bodies were investigated in a lab to see what the explosion had done to them, and how they had died. After the investigation, their bodies were later buried. Except the body of Gregory Jarvis was cremated, and his ashes were spred over the Pacific Ocean. Christa McAuliffe's body was buried near her family in Concord, New Hampshire.

Most people who saw this event were confused and took them a little bit to figure out what had happened. Others, were immediately aware of what happened because of the big puff of smoke in the sky.
